Gina's Story - Water Heater malfunction Creates Carbon monoxide

Just a note to say thank you. A Nighthawk plug-in carbon monoxide detector/alarm very likely saved the lives of myself and my family (husband and two kids). I bought the detector several years ago after hearing about the dangers of carbon monoxide. After several years of having it and it always displaying a zero reading, I never really thought about it, but I always kept it plugged in. At about 1 a.m. yesterday morning the alarm woke me up. It said the CO level was 55. I called the fire department and their monitor also had a high reading. They told us to wake the kids and get out of the house until the gas company could come. The gas company man found that our water heater was emitting CO into the house. He shut the water heater off; we cleared the air out and went back inside. We're having a new water heater delivered today. This story could (and likely would) have had a much different ending if not for that Nighthawk CO detector.

Thank you so much.
