Carbon Monoxide Legislation

Colorado Law Protects Citizens from the Silent Killer

A new law is now in effect to help protect Coloradans from deadly carbon monoxide (CO). As of July 1st, many families must install CO alarms within 15 feet of bedrooms. Colorado is now the 23rd state to require CO alarms in homes.

Known as the “silent killer,” CO is the leading cause of accidental poisonings in the United States. The only safe way to detect carbon monoxide in your home is with a working CO alarm.

All of Kidde's CO alarms are UL-listed and include Nighthawk technology, which has been proven to be the world's most accurate CO sensing technology based on claims by major manufacturers.

Kidde offers Colorado-approved CO alarms available for purchase at:

Do you live in Colorado and need a CO alarm?

Kidde has joined with Safe Kids coalitions across Colorado to remind families about the dangers of CO poisoning and the recently enacted CO alarm legislation. To help raise awareness, Kidde donated 1,000 CO alarms to Safe Kids for distribution in homes throughout the state.

Kidde kicked off the campaign at the “Hot Times, Kool Cars” event on August 30 in Arvada.  The first 105 families who visited the Safe Kids Denver Metro booth received a free CO alarm for their home.

The remaining 895 Kidde alarms will be available at select Safe Kids Coalitions in Colorado.  For information on how to get a free CO alarm for your family, and to find a Safe Kids coalition near you, visit www.SafeKidsDenverMetro.org
