Kidde Previews New Technology at CES 2017

Kidde , a leading manufacturer of residential fire safety products, will showcase its new intelligent wireless technology and a new smartphone notification system at the 2017 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Kidde is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

Using Kidde’s proprietary technology, the new smoke and combination alarms will provide homeowners peace of mind and wireless interconnection, allowing alarms throughout the home to “talk” to each other without the need for hardwiring or Wi-Fi. In the event of an alarm, high quality voice alerts plus color-coded LED lights built into the alarms communicate the type of hazard. Designed for quick and easy setup, the alarms are activated by simply powering on and following the voice prompts and LEDs to finish the installation.

We buy the latest and greatest technology only to get it home and have problems setting it up with our home Wi-Fi,” said Chris Rovenstine, vice president, marketing and sales, Kidde. “When it comes to protecting our family and home, set-up should be quick and easy. Unlike other products that require a smart phone for set-up, we’ve designed our alarms with intelligent wireless interconnect allowing homeowners to create a safer, connected home within minutes.”

Kidde will offer six models, including a smoke alarm, a smoke and carbon monoxide combination alarm, and a smoke alarm featuring an ultra-bright LED escape light. All feature a sealed-in, 10-year battery which lasts the life of the alarm and eliminates the hassle of battery replacement. The option of hardwired with battery-backup is also available.

For homeowners wanting additional connectivity, the alarms can also be used with Kidde’s new Wi-Fi connector to expand the home safety and security network. When connected, the smart bridge sends remote notifications to the homeowner’s smartphone – alerting them to which alarms are sounding and the type of hazard. In addition, the bridge and alarm network can be used in conjunction with Kidde’s RemoteLync Camera and third party services to create a whole home notification system. Kidde’s app will be available for download from the Apple Store and Google Play.

These new products will be available at select Home Depot stores and various online retailers beginning in summer 2017.
