Kidde Taps into the Power of Music to Elevate Fire Safety Awareness for Kids
Cause For Alarm™ is Kidde’s ongoing fire safety awareness initiative addressing gaps in education and access to fire safety measures. This campaign was created in response to the statistics that fatal house fires disproportionately affect some communities more than others. Since its launch in 2022, Kidde’s Cause For Alarm campaign has helped drive equitable access to life-saving devices through smoke alarm donations and educational resources.
For the second year of the campaign, Kidde focused on helping improve fire safety awareness and education among children. Unfortunately, every day, at least one child dies from a home fire in the US. When you look at fire safety awareness, on average, students practice up to 156 fire drills during their K-12 experience, making them well-prepared in the event of a fire at school. However, they are less knowledgeable about what to do if the smoke alarm goes off at home.
To address this knowledge gap, Kidde teamed up with National PTA and Quarterback Kirk Cousins to help educate families and children on the importance of having working smoke alarms and practicing fire safety at home. To help children easily recall what to do in the event of a fire, the brand created a Cause For Alarm jingle, “Beeps That Last, Get Out Fast.”
Together, Kidde and National PTA are helping to close the protection gap, reaching parents and caregivers through engagement with local PTAs, including family fire safety events in select communities across the country. Kidde deployed educational materials, including its memorable jingle, a Fire Safety Toolkit and a children’s book (which you can see below).
Additional 2023 Activities
Kidde Partners with National PTA To Host Family Fire Safety Nights and More
Together, Kidde and National PTA helped to close the protection gap by reaching parents and caregivers through engagement with local PTAs which included family fire safety events in select communities across the country. For the 2023 campaign, Kidde and National PTA jointly hosted 10 Fire Safety Family Nights at Title 1 schools. During these events, Kidde deployed educational materials, including its memorable jingle, a Fire Safety Toolkit and a children’s book. Kidde also donated 11,000 smoke alarms across these 10 events with an additional 9,000 smoke alarms donated to National PTA for other fire safety education events.
Safety Doesn’t Take a Summer Vacation and Neither Did Kidde
Kidde participated in fire safety summer camps across three states thanks to seven different organizations that helped educate children about the basics of fire safety. Kidde provided its Safety Saves the Day children's book, which helps children learn how they can be a fire safety hero at home. More than 7,000 English editions, and 3,000 Spanish editions of the book were distributed. We’re excited to have reached more than 10,700 children in the K-6 age group with this effort!
